Acker opened the auction season in remarkable style with its September 12th US auction, the first of the highly anticipated Fall season. The auction realized close to $8 million, soaring 20% above the entire sale’s pre-sale estimates, and set 153 New World Records. Driving the excitement was The Mouthwatering Collection of Roger Stein, one of the most breathtaking Burgundy collections ever to come to market. Roger’s collection sparked intense bidding while accounting for 68% of World Records, setting the tone for the scintillating season ahead.

The Top Ten Lots of the sale were a triumph for Burgundy, with Domaine de la Romanée-Conti capturing seven of the ten top positions. Leading the way, twelve-bottle DRC Assortments from the 1990 and 1999 vintages shared the number one spot, each achieving an impressive $93,750. Dujac broke through at number three, with ten bottles of 1990 Clos de la Roche realizing $68,750. Three-bottle banded OWCs of 2010 and 2015 Romanée-Conti claimed the fourth and fifth places, selling for $62,500 and $60,000, respectively. The lone non-Burgundy entry arrived at number six, as twelve bottles of 1978 Conterno Barolo Monfortino Riserva brought in $56,250. The seventh through ninth positions were again secured by DRC, led by a Jeroboam of 1979, followed by two separate three-bottle banded OWCs of 2011 Romanée-Conti, each achieving $50,000. Closing out the list, nine bottles of 1999 Rousseau Chambertin seized the tenth spot at $47,500.

The Mouthwatering Collection of Roger Stein showcased extraordinary breadth and depth across Burgundy, setting 104 New World Records. Among its many standouts was what is believed to be the largest collection of Truchot-Martin ever presented at auction, nearly fifty lots in total with half achieving All-Time High prices. Truchot highlights included five bottles of 2005 Clos de la Roche at $23,750, and Record-Setting lots featured a magnum of 1988 Clos de la Roche, four bottles of 1998 Clos de la Roche Vieilles Vignes, and six bottles of 2005 Chambolle-Musigny Les Sentiers, each bringing in $15,000. Five bottles of 2005 Morey St. Denis Clos Sorbès Vieilles Vignes at $13,750 and six bottles of 2005 Morey St. Denis Blanchards at $10,625 also achieved New World Records.

Additional Burgundy highlights from the collection were three bottles of 1991 Rousseau Chambertin Clos de Bèze at $30,000; four bottles of 1985 DRC Romanée St. Vivant at $25,000; and three bottles of 1988 Roumier Bonnes Mares and three magnums of 2002 Engel Echézeaux, each realizing $18,750 and setting New World Records. Rare older bottles added further excitement, including a 1978 DRC La Tâche at $16,250, alongside six bottles of 2000 Dujac Clos St. Denis at $10,000, a magnum of 1969 Drouhin Chambertin Clos de Bèze at $8,750, and two bottles of 1961 Vogue Bonnes Mares at $6,250 — the latter three all establishing New World Records. White Burgundy was also strong, led by four bottles of 2007 Coche-Dury Meursault Genevrières at $23,750, a magnum of 1982 Leflaive Bienvenues Bâtard-Montrachet at $16,250, and six magnums of 2004 Raveneau Chablis Montée de Tonnerre at $9,375—each establishing All-Time Highs. Beyond Burgundy, Champagne delivered World-Record results as well, with a bottle of 1969 Dom Pérignon P3 at $8,125 and a bottle of 1979 Salon Le Mesnil at $4,750.

“What a spectacular way to kick off the season, thanks to the collection of Roger Stein!” exclaimed Acker Chairman John Kapon. “We were fortunate to taste a number of gems from Roger’s cellar right before the sale, and it was a mouthwatering experience, indeed, to the very last drop. There’s no question the tariffs have impacted demand, with collectors quickly recognizing that everything is 15% more valuable without even blinking. Clients responded accordingly, and with upcoming sales in Hong Kong, the US, Singapore and Zurich, this season is already shaping up like no other before. Opportunity will be knocking hard this Fall!”

Acker’s 2025 auction season continues with a Hong Kong sale September 26–27, followed by another US auction October 18, the Singapore Anniversary Auction October 25, and the Zurich Auction November 8. Consignments are now being accepted for the October US and November Swiss auctions, with a shared deadline of Friday, September 26. Weekly web auction deadlines remain every Friday.
